KOZHIKODE: A notice reached former BJP MP Suresh Gopi to appear for questioning in a case of insulting a female journalist. Nadakkavu police sent a notice asking Suresh Gopi to appear before the 18th of this month. The incident related to the case took place in Kozhikode last month while Suresh Gopi was responding to the media.
It was accused that Suresh Gopi while responding to a question, inappropriately put his hands on a female reporter’s shoulder. The journalist disturbed by the actor’s gesture tried removing his hands, but the actor continued touching her which perturbed the journalist and later resulted in a complaint. Suresh Gopi even came with an apology for the incident, but the journalist was adamant to move forward with the complaint. According to Suresh Gopi, he touched her affectionately but sincerely apologized if the journalist felt different.
The police registered a case under section 354A of the IPC and had earlier recorded the statement of the complainant. The police also collected evidence from the place where the incident took place. CCTV footage was also examined.
