KOZHIKODE: Aparna Vinod, a 30-year-old cyclist, is embarking on a 2200 km solo journey from Tali Temple in Kozhikode to Somanatha Temple in Gujarat. Her goal is to reach the destination within forty days, passing through Kasaragod, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra with the aim of joining the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in between.
Aparna, hailing from Kozhikode but currently residing in Kalpatta, Wayanad will cover 60 to 70 km daily during both morning and evening rides including night journeys. Cycling clubs from various states are joining forces to support her along with the backing of Rotary Calicut Beach and JACI.
Aparna, the wife of Vinod, owner of the renowned Crown Theater in Kozhikode reminisces about the nostalgic vibes of childhood bicycle trips. The expedition, named "Pedal for Planet," aligns with her eco-friendly lifestyle adopted since 2010. She is currently collaborating with the Netherlands-based Green Destinations, previously being an entrepreneur in tourism. Her business was impacted by Nipah, floods, and COVID-19, leading to inactivity. Aparna, a mother of two children, Ram in seventh grade and Dev in first grade aims to promote nature-friendly lifestyles, sustainable tourism and the significance of mental health.
