ALAPPUZHA: It has been alleged that a class 10 student was called to the police station and brutally assaulted by policemen in Mannanchery. Barkath Ali, the son of migrant worker Yousuf, was subject to cruelty by the police. In their complaint, Barkath's family alleged that he was hit on the hand with a lathi and kicked on the back with the knee. Meanwhile, the police are saying that they did not know that Barkath was a minor.
On Thursday, the electric scooter on which Barkath was travelling had collided with a girl's vehicle. Following this, the police registered a case and called the student to the station and settled the matter. After this, the boy was again called to the station on Friday. The boy reached the station along with his parents.
The police then asked the family to pay Rs 1000. However, the family said that they would not pay the money as the matter had already been settled. Following this, the boy was made to sit in the station for nearly 6 hours. In the meantime, the policemen allegedly took him to a part where there were no CCTV cameras and brutally assaulted him. The doctor who later treated Barkath said that there were bruises of assault on the boy's body.
