PALAKKAD: An elderly man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Attappadi. The deceased is Tamil Nadu Chinnathadakam native Rajappan. Rajappan reached Attappadi to visit his daughter. He was sleeping in a shed adjacent to the house. At night, a wild elephant reached the area and destroyed the crops at a nearby place. On hearing the sound, Rajappan came out and saw the elephant standing before him. Following this, the elephant attacked him and trampled him to death.
Wild elephant attack is rampant in the region. The forest department officials managed to chase away the elephant to the forest after much effort. Rajappan's body is currently kept at the Kottathara hospital. The body will be released to his relatives after post-mortem.
A similar incident had taken place in Wayanad the other day. Cholamala native Kunjavaran (58), a plantation worker, was trampled to death by a wild elephant while he was going to work. The incident took place near the transformer in Elambaleri.
