THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three people were injured in a fire at a firework shop in Poojapura's Thamalam. Two two-wheelers in front of the shop were also gutted in fire. The incident took place around 7.30 pm on Saturday. The injured were Sarala, Geetanjali and a man who came to buy firecrackers were injured. They were admitted to the Medical College Hospital.

The fire broke out in a shop called Chandrika Store, which has been operating for nearly 30 years, near LP School, Thamalam. This is a stationery shop, and crackers were also being sold on the occasion of Diwali. The firecrackers and other items in the two-room shop were completely burnt.

Firecrackers were displayed in front of the shop. The initial conclusion is that the sparks of firecrackers burst from the neighbourhood as part of the Diwali celebration started the fire. The people who were in the shop ran out immediately and a major accident was avoided. The electric wire passing in front of the shop also caught fire. Two units of the fire brigade rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

The shop owner Radhakrishnan, his wife Chandrika, two employees and a person who had come to buy firecrackers were in the shop at the time of the incident. Owner Radhakrishnan said that the shop operated legally. Deputy Mayor PK Raju visited the scene and said that the Collector and Tehsildar will investigate the incident and submit a report. He said that Minister V Sivankutty and Mayor Arya Rajendran intervened to coordinate the rescue operation.
