THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Tamil Nadu Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate has recommended a CBI investigation into the complaint that the land and house given as collateral for bank loan were auctioned without informing the owner. The Vigilance Directorate recommended a CBI investigation on the complaint of SNDP Yogam Parashala Union Secretary Choozhal Nirmalan. Kanyakumari District Superintendent of Police has also been directed to conduct an investigation.

In 2009, Nirmalan took a loan of 40 lakhs from Indian Overseas Bank's Neyyattinkara Udiyankulangara Charottukonam branch, mortgaging 1.48 acres of land and a 5200 square feet house. Despite repaying 28 lakhs, the bank demanded payment of another 52 lakhs. Meanwhile, on September 8, 2023, the bank auctioned the property for 1.07 crores without informing Nirmalan.

When Nirmalan approached the High Court against this, he was advised to approach the Ernakulam Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal. According to this, Nirmalan filed a petition in the tribunal. Nirmalan filed a complaint with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, DGP and Vigilance Directorate as the process dragged on. After considering the complaint, the Vigilance Directorate issued an order to the CBI Chennai branch, recommending an investigation.
