ALAPPUZHA: Omana, wife of the late farmer Prasad from Ambedkar Colony, Thakazhi Kunnumma speaks of her profound reliance on her husband who took his own life. She reveals the financial struggles she faces, lacking even a phone. Omana is uncertain about managing the family and farming without her husband.

Debt has accumulated from various sources and the land in his name has been relinquished. The leased field, sown for a new crop a week ago, now requires funds for fertilizers. Omana shares that each harvest season, her husband would approach banks for loans, often returning empty-handed.

Neighbours disclose that Prasad sought a loan from his pension days before his demise, only to be informed of financial difficulties. All agricultural supplies.including medicines were purchased on credit. Prasad, actively involved in community projects during his free time faced mounting challenges.

In his final conversation with his daughter Adina, Prasad admitted to resuming drinking. Concerned, Adina, unaccustomed to her father drinking since her childhood was distressed when he called again, intoxicated and tearful. Prasad's words urged her to care for her mother and brother if anything happened to him. Alarmed, Adina alerted her mother, relatives and local leaders.
