THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: In a tragic incident that shocked Kattakada, a female student was crushed to death by a KSRTC bus. The incident happened at 4:45 pm today. Abhanya (18), a graduate student of Kattakkada Christian College is the deceased. She was rushed to the hospital by the locals after the incident but couldn’t be saved.
Abhanya on her way home from college, stopped near the KSRTC bus depot to make a phone call. She was standing in an isolated space when another KSRTC bus from Vizhinjam arrived at the depot. The bus stopped in front of Abhanya and she continued with her call. Shockingly, the bus again moved forward and crushed Abhanya to a pillar of the commercial complex.
A huge protest mostly led by students ensued in the place, and they accused the driver of being drunk. After the incident, the driver eloped from the stand and ran straight to the superintendent's office for safety. The students and locals protested in the depot asking police to arrest him. Abhanya's body will be handed over to her relatives after post-mortem.
As of now, the situation returned to normalcy with timely police intrusion.
