KASARAGOD: Kasaragod District Sessions Court rejected the head teacher's anticipatory bail plea in the Dalit student's hair-cutting case. The bail application of Shirley Joseph, headmistress of Mar Gregorios Memorial UP School, Chittarikkal Kottamala, was rejected.

The complaint is that the hair of a class Five student was forcibly cut during the school assembly on the pretext that he had grown his hair long. The incident related to the case took place on the 19th of last month.

It was the Mahila Samakhya Society workers who came to the house in Kottamala Colony who sought information from the child who did not go to school following the incident and informed the police. A case has been filed against the headmistress on non-bailable provisions including prevention of violence against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The Child Rights Commission had voluntarily registered a case in the incident.

The case registered by the Chittarikkal police is being investigated by a team led by DySP A Satish Kumar of the Kasaragod Special Mobile Squad. The headmistress went into hiding as the investigation intensified. The court rejected the anticipatory bail application after hearing the arguments in detail.
