PATNA: A sub-inspector who tried to stop sand smuggling was killed by running him over with a tractor. The incident took place in Bihar's Jamui Mahulia Thand village. Th deceased has been identified as Prabhat Ranjan, a young sub-inspector. The sub-inspector tried to stop the gang that was transporting illegally mined sand. Two people, including the home guard, were injured in the incident. They were admitted to the hospital.

Prabhat Ranjan, a resident of Siwan district, was the officer-in-charge of the Garhi police station. After the attack, the inspector was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

Meanwhile, the statement of Bihar Education Minister Chandrashekhar, who reacted to the incident, became controversial. He told the media that such incidents are not new and similar incidents have been reported earlier in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The minister added that the accused in the case will be punished.

Prabhat Ranjan has a four-year-old daughter. A few days ago, a son was born to him. After giving birth, his wife is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jilli. Officials said that the officer's family members will reach Jamui.
