MUMBAI: In the nail-biter semi-final thriller at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, India emerged victorious defeating New Zealand by 70 runs, and cruised to the final of ICC World Cup 2023.

The game that once thought of going New Zealand’s way quickly changed course, thanks to a career-best fierce bowling display from Mohammed Shami. The Indian seamer took seven wickets almost destroying the New Zealand batting lineup all by himself.

Earlier, the cricket World Cup semifinal at Wankhede turned into a gripping watch as New Zealand who stumbled early with the bat, rose back to the game with a phoenix comeback. Darryl Mitchell’s stunning century along with the destructive batting form alarmed the thousands crowded up in Wankhede stadium.

India scored 397 runs for four wickets in the limited over, thanks to Virat Kohli's (117) record-breaking battle display with Shreyas Iyer’s dominant century. With this victory, India has won 10 consecutive games in the World Cup tournament, a new record. The second semifinal between Australia and South Africa will take place in Kolkata on Thursday.
