THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The nauseating smell that seeped the Mudavanmugal ward for the past 22 days has ended for good. Yesterday, the water authority replaced the broken drainage pipe in Mudavanmugal, which is Mayor Arya Rajendran's ward. The impetus to repair suddenly came from the Kerala Kaumudi report which mentioned in detail the dilapidated state of Thiruvananthapuram Mayor’s own ward. For almost 50 families here, sewage and other wastes have been reaching their house premises for the last few days.

The corporation craned its neck into the issue after Kaumudi did a report on the manhole burst on Naikkar Lane located between the road connecting Poojappura and Kunjalumoodu. The inspection of the municipal corporation found that a part of the main pipeline going to Muttathara was leaking due to a broken pipe. Earlier, a complaint was made to the mayor the next day after the pipe broke, but no further action was taken. Very soon, the mayor departed for Spain which forced the locals to inform the health department about the issue.

They visited the spot and immediately found the pipe burst. The health department officials also informed the water authority that the pipe in the sewage line was broken. But there was a delay from the water authorities part. Ten lakh rupees were spent on the works and the repair of the broken sewage pipe. It took four days to bury the pipe. There is a strong protest by the people against the failure of the administrators to solve the problem in the ward.
