THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning for moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning expected in the state over the next five days. Specifically, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Malappuram districts may experience light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas along with gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph within the next three hours.
A deep depression situated in the central West Bay of Bengal is projected to escalate into a cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours. Forecasters predict its movement towards the north and northeast, potentially making landfall as a cyclone between Monglak and Khepupara along the Bangladesh coast by Saturday morning. Additionally, another cyclone is presently positioned over northern Sri Lanka.
Adverse weather conditions including strong winds are anticipated along the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and Kanyakumari coast reaching speeds of 40 to 45 kmph occasionally surging up to 55 kmph. The Central Meteorological Department has assured that fishing activities along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts will not be disrupted.
