THRISSUR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is investigating the case against the Islamic State (ISIS) module in Kerala, will re-interrogate the three arrested persons. The said persons are Syed Nabeel Ahmed, native of Thrissur's Pavaratti, Shiyas TS of Nedupura in Kattoor in Thrissur, and Ashif, native of Padoor in Thrissur. The NIA court in Kochi granted their custody request for a week on Thursday. The NIA said that the interrogation is based on digital evidence.
It is indicated that more evidence was found after checking the social media activity of both. Details of more people associated with the group have been received. They may be taken into custody in the coming days.
The NIA had put the IS module, which was active in Thrissur, under surveillance in July. It was found that they collected money to promote terrorist activities and carry out terrorist attacks on religious centres and leaders. For this, cooperative banks, nationalized banks, jewellers, business establishments of other religions and looting were planned. As part of this, thirty lakhs were stolen from an ATM counter in Palakkad. A Telegram group was created to recruit youth into the organisation. The group was also active in recruiting people.
One of the accused, Ashif, a native of Thrissur's Padoor, was earlier arrested from near Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu, and Shiyas TS was caught in August. In September, Syed Nabeel Ahmed was arrested in Chennai while trying to enter Nepal using a fake passport. Another accused Raees from Palakkad is absconding.
