THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is likely to lash the state today. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of light rain in Kollam in the next three hours. Yellow alert has been issued in Kollam and Pathanamthitta.

Rain will continue in the state for the next four days. A yellow alert has been issued in Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts on Sunday and in Pathanamthitta and Idukki on Monday. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

Meantime, there is waterlogging in Valakam town of Kollam, which received heavy rain yesterday. Water is not flowing properly through the drains. There is no other system to drain the water reaching the town and this is the reason of waterlogging at Valakam junction even if it rains a little. The reason for the water not going down into the drain is due to the construction of safety corridors on both sides of the road.
