THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Human Rights Commission has registered a case regarding an incident where a prisoner was allegedly scalded with boiling water by a jail official. The complaint suggests that this act of cruelty was prompted by an inquiry about the presence of hair in breakfast. The Acting Chairperson and Judicial Member, K Baijunath has ordered a hearing scheduled for December 11 at the Commission office located at P M G junction.

Leon Johnson, held in judicial custody for four months reportedly underwent a harrowing experience. The purported incident occurred on November 10. As per the complaint filed by a friend, Lyon suffered severe burns and is currently receiving treatment at the jail hospital.

In another incident, two policemen have been suspended for severely beating a student during a vehicle inspection at Pala station. ASI Biju K Thomas and Grade SI Premson have faced suspension due to the occurrence on October 28.

The victim, Parthipan (17) from Perumbavoor was subjected to physical assault. The police signaled the student to halt during a car inspection. When the vehicle continued moving, they pursued and apprehended Parthipan. He was taken to the station for driving without a license. The student alleged that the police assaulted him under the pretext of intoxication, resulting in spinal injuries.
