JAIPUR: Villagers of Naya Jetpura in Rajasthan withdrew from the election boycott after election observer Raju Narayanaswamy intervened. Alleging that successive governments are not doing anything to solve their drinking water problem, the entire village had decided to boycott the elections to be held on November 25.
Drinking water is the biggest problem in West Rajasthan. Villagers agreed to vote after Raju Narayanaswamy who came to the village, gave a written assurance through the district collector. The collector gave the assurance that whichever the upcoming government be, they will make a permanent solution to the drinking water problem by including it in the Centrally funded scheme. The majority of the people in the village belong to Scheduled Castes. The Election Commission, which assessed the situation through special video conferencing, expressed satisfaction with the action of Raju Narayanaswamy, District Collector Nishant Jain and Retaining Officer Kusumalatha.
