THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A three-member committee has been established to address concerns regarding the proposed price hike of subsidized goods in SupplyCo. The committee comprises Supplyco CMD, the Food Secretary and Planning Board member Ravi Mamman. The decision was made during a meeting convened by Minister G.R Anil. The committee's task is to deliver a report to the food minister within 15 days.
Currently, the prices of 13 essential commodities date back to 2016. Supplyco has requested an increase of over 20 percent in these prices. The committee will investigate this matter. Recently, the food minister mentioned that the price hike aims to sustain SupplyCo. The government intends to execute the hike in a manner that benefits consumers, even if the prices rise by 500 rupees compared to buying from the public market. The implementation of this increase is slated to occur after the Nava Kerala Sadas.
Supplyco offers 13 items at subsidized rates. While a tender for two items took place recently, agencies refrained from participating in the remaining tenders. Companies expressed interest in participating if the prices could be raised.
