The tourism department hosted its inaugural investor meeting, securing a staggering investment pledge of 15,116 crores during the session held in Thiruvananthapuram. Notably, 12,000 crores stem from private investors, while the remaining sum originates from government channels facilitated by private involvement. Additionally, Tamara Leisure Private Limited inked an MoU worth 250 crores in Alappuzha and Kannur.

Tourism Minister P A Muhammad Riaz highlighted the objective of leveraging private investors and institutions to infuse capital into the state's tourism sector, fostering fresh concepts and offerings. He acknowledged the hesitance among expatriates and local entrepreneurs to invest in government-related initiatives owing to apprehensions about potential financial losses.

The Minister emphasized the imperative for the government to dispel these concerns, urging a shift away from bureaucratic hurdles that impede progress. He stressed that the prosperity of such ventures would ultimately benefit all stakeholders including those who might currently oppose these initiatives citing minor issues like non-assignment of numbers for construction or denial of benefits.

Acknowledging that government intervention alone cannot drive the tourism sector, Minister Riaz underscored that ninety percent of the world's leading tourism enterprises are privately owned. He advocated for a policy framework where the government ensures safety and order while the private sector drives innovation and investment.

The post-COVID period has witnessed a resurgence in Kerala's tourism. The first nine months of 2023 recorded a historic upsurge in domestic tourism, with 1.59 crore visitors compared to 1.33 crore during the same period last year. Kerala's acclaim in the global tourism arena was further solidified with multiple international awards during this time.

The inaugural investor meeting, aimed at propelling Kerala's tourism to greater heights, garnered participation from 500 investors, 46 startups, and 118 entrepreneurs in responsible tourism. Welcoming the decision to establish a Facilitation Center for post-summit follow-ups, Minister Riaz highlighted the pivotal role it will play in supporting investors and entrepreneurs.

The Minister emphasized the necessity for top-tier government support and collaboration from local committees until ventures become operational. The proposed Facilitation Center and the Coordinating Committee led by the Tourism Secretary are anticipated to facilitate this collaboration.
