THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The group personal accident insurance scheme of government employees has been reformed into a Jeevan Raksha Scheme and some benefits have been increased. Accidental death cover has been increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. 5 lakhs cover for death other than accident. Annual premium will remain unchanged at Rs.1000. Finance Minister KN Balagopal informed that this will be applicable for claims from last April 1. The scheme of the State Insurance Department has been revised to ensure coverage for disability and loss of limbs due to accidents. The scheme is applicable to all employees of semi-government, public sector, cooperatives, universities and other self-governing bodies.

15 lakhs if bedridden

• 15 lakhs will be covered in case of complete bed rest due to accident. The same benefit will be available if the disability is more than 80%.
• 75% coverage for 60% to 80% disability. People facing 40% to 60% disability will get compensation of 50 percent of the promised amount.
• Insurance coverage for arm, leg, vision disability, and hearing loss in case of accident. 40 to 100% of the promised amount.
• Compensation for the loss of fingers will be calculated after determining which finger and the percentage loss of finger.
• Compensation up to 10% of the promised amount for loss of toes.
