AHMEDABAD: The Indian team, which is riding high after winning 10 consecutive matches in the World Cup, will set out on Sunday to lift its third ODI World Cup. A win in the final will also be a revenge for defeat it faced against the Aussies in the final of the 2003 World Cup.
Indian fans are waiting for Rohit Sharma and his team to kiss the World Cup today at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Indian team, which defeated Australia by six wickets in their first match of the tournament is the strong favourite of cricket experts. However, one cannot simply write off the mighty Australians, the five-time world champions who made a strong comeback after losing its first two matches in the tournament. The Surya Kiran aerobatic team of the Indian Air Force will perform an air show ahead of the final match.
India
Strength
The Indian team, which won the last 10 matches, is like a well-oiled machine in all departments of the game. Rohit, Gill, Virat, Rahul and Shreyas are in superb form. The bowling attack is also in top form. India will lift the trophy if Mohammed Shami, Bumrah, Kuldeep and Jadeja continue to be in form.
Challenge
The absence of a sixth bowler is a problem for India. India has very less bowling options to try if any of the five bowlers get smacked by the opposition batters. The Aussie openers will look to increase the run-rate by targeting one of the pace bowlers.
Australia
Strength
The Australian team is a group of match-winners. All-rounders Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, batters David Warner, Steve Smith, all-rounder Travis Head, pacers Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Hazelwood and spinner Adam Zampa are all dangerous.
Challenge
The match will be played in front of one and a half lakh Indian fans. If the pitch favours the spinners, Australian batters will have difficulty facing Kuldeep and Jadeja.
