AHMEDABAD: India faced a disappointing defeat against Australia in the World Cup final yesterday disappointing millions of spectators at the stadium and crores of Indian cricket fans. Aussie captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first. India's batting performance fell short as they were all out for just 240 runs in the 50th over marking the first time they were bowled out in this World Cup.
Australia, in their reply initially struggled but managed to surpass India's total with ease. With Aussie opener Travis Head dominating India's bowlers, India suffered a six-wicket loss leading to Australia claiming their sixth world championship title. Australia outperformed India in batting, bowling and fielding.
Former Indian captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar expressed his disappointment but also pride in India's tournament performance. He stated, "I'm saddened by the result but I'm incredibly proud of how well our team performed throughout the tournament." Gavaskar acknowledged India's brilliance in the ten matches but highlighted their inability to clinch the title in the crucial final match.
However, he emphasized that losing to a superior team like Australia carries no shame. Gavaskar noted, "Australia, being five-time world champions, know how to win finals. There's no disgrace in losing to them. I'm proud of India's efforts and the joy they've brought to millions of fans."
