KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate has arrested former bank president and CPI leader Bhasurangan and his son Akhiljith in the Kandala Bank fraud case. The arrest was made after 10 hours of interrogation on Tuesday. The interrogation was based on the documents found during the raids at the bank and Bhasurangan's house. Both of them will be produced in court on Wednesday.
The ED earlier found a fraud of Rs 101 crore from the bank. Details also emerged about several loans taken with a guarantee of just one deed. Bhasurangan also borrowed Rs 3.20 crore several times over eight years. He took Rs 3.20 crore with just one deed, that is the document related to a 14 cent land he owned. It was also found that a loan of one crore rupees was taken eight times in the name of Bhasurangan's son. No money has been repaid back to this account.
Meanwhile, Bhasurangan who earlier faced the media denied any wrongdoing and said there were irregularities in the bank but reiterated that no fraud was committed. The ED is examining the digital documents seized during the raids at the bank and the houses of its employees and Bhasurangan. Scientific testing of computer hard disk and CPU has also started. Many documents were seized during the 35-hour-long raid.
