KANNUR: Clashes in the Youth Congress march to the Nava Kerala Sadas venue in Kannur to protest against the brutality of DYFI. The march that started near the DCC office was stopped by the police.
Meanwhile, the Youth League activists protested displaying placards and black flags after reaching the Valapattanam Manna Stadium where the Navakerala Sadas was held in Azhikode constituency. They came wearing black clothes. The Chief Minister was also on the stage. Youth League District Secretary KK Shinaj, Mandal General Secretary AN Midlaj, Gram Panchayat members Saifuddin Narath, Fazil Parakkat and others were arrested.
The Youth Congress march started from the Kannur DCC office at 11.30 am to the ground near the Collectorate where the Sadas was being held. Police had set up a barricade 50 meters away. The conflict broke out when the male police tried to arrest the women activists.
The police fired water cannons when protestors tried to push down the barricade. The protest was led by the state general secretaries of the Youth Congress. The activists prevented the police from arresting the leaders. There was clash between Kannur ACP and protesters. Protestors including women sat in front of the barricade and protested. The arrested activists were dragged into the bus. Around 100 activists participated in the march.
Attack with helmets and plant pots
Four workers were seriously injured in the CPM-DYFI attack during the Youth Congress black flag protest against the Chief Minister in Pazhayangadi last day. Youth Congress District Vice President Sudhish Vellachal's condition is critical. In the FIR, he was beaten on the head with a helmet, a plant pot and an iron rod. Pazhayangadi police registered a case against 14 CPM-DYFI workers.
