THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: National Human Rights Commission's intervention in the brutal action of the police who broke Nazia's nose during the KSU strike. The intervention is based on the complaint filed by Dr Suresh K Guptan along with the Kerala Kaumudi report. DGP should take immediate action and submit a report.

The incident took place during the march to the official residence of Minister R Bindu. According to the newspaper report, Jose, the policeman of the AR camp, aimed his lathi at the head of the girl which is against the police rules and in violation of the court order.

Police force members are advised that the caning should be below the waist. It is also instructed and practiced in camps. During the KSU march, the protesters had strong verbal conflict with the police, but the law and order situation was not affected. Nazia was talking to the CI when Jose beat her with a lathi from behind.

Lathi charge should be done only if violence continues even after firing water cannon and tear gas. The police did not follow this either. Dr Suresh has complained to the Governor, Chief Minister, DGP, Human Rights Commission and Home Secretary, along with the Kerala Kaumudi report.
