THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The policeman who tried to stop the accused from escaping was hacked. S Binu, a native of Kilimanoor and CPO of Varkala Ayiroor police station, who was injured, sought treatment at the Varkala Taluk Hospital. Anas Khan (26) and Devanarayanan (20) were arrested in the incident.
The dramatic incident took place at Ayiroor station at 10.30 pm on Monday. Ayiroor police arrested Devanarayan from Kottarakkara on Monday night in the case of trying to kill his friend Achu Sreekumar. Anas Khan who was with him was also taken into custody. After taking them to the station and performing a body search, the police removed the handcuffs to put them both in the lock-up. Anas Khan took out a machete from his bag at this time and swung it causing panic. Then both came out and ran towards Thachottu. The stray dog that the police were looking after also ran after them. The police also followed them.
Machete was swung towards the neck
After 150 meters, Binu overtook Anas Khan. Meanwhile, Anas swung the machete at Binu's neck. When he stopped this, his left hand was cut on the elbow. Although he was bleeding, Binu did not let go of the accused. With the help of SHO UP Vipin Kumar, the accused were shifted to the lock-up. Six people including the SHO were present at the station at the time of the incident. It is learned that not changing the bag of the accused on time is what led to the incident.
Anas Khan is an accused in the case of attacking the policemen of Kallambalam police station a year and a half ago. Devanarayan also has a criminal background.
The attack took place while arresting the accused. The accused were remanded. There are no other problems."
