KOCHI: Justice PV Kunjikrishnan has recused himself from hearing the petition filed by the parents seeking a CBI probe into the death of Dr Vandana Das. The court had earlier asked Vandana's parents to file a police report in the petition. The government had sought time several times to submit the report. As the report was not received even after Tuesday, the bench withdrew expressing dissatisfaction. The single bench said that this is not the way to respond to the court's directive.

Dr. Vandana, who was a house surgeon at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, died after an accused named Sandeep, who was presented for medical examination by the police, stabbed her. The parents of Vandana, KG Mohandas and T. Vasanthakumari approached the High Court for a CBI investigation.

In the petition, the court asked the DGP to talk to the petitioners and investigate the problems and submit a report specifying what solutions can be found. The government argued that the investigation was in the right direction and that there was no need for a CBI investigation.
