THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the many violent incidents alerting the country, the Kerala police prepared a report and the details included are alarming. In the report, the police have ordered more protection to be given to the holy shrine Sabarimala. The police also recommended that a model code of conduct be formulated at Sabarimala to counter terrorist attacks and emergency situations.

According to the police report, there is a possibility of terrorist organizations and Maoist groups sneaking into Sabarimala in the guise of pilgrims. Explosive devices can be smuggled along with the offerings. Many terrorist groups are capable of handling improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by remote control. The report also asked police officers to conduct a search with probity in a way not to offend the beliefs and rituals followed by pilgrims.

In October, an explosion at a prayer place in Kalamassery was carried out using an IED. According to the report, there is a possibility of arms and explosives being smuggled to the holy shrine in Sabarimala. The police also warn that the hotels in Sannidhanam are dangerously maintained and that they are likely to catch fire. Some hotels keep 30 to 130 LPG cylinders. The report also recommended police to control the storage of illegal cylinders.
