THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rain will get heavy in the state in the coming hours. IMD has informed that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the hilly areas. A red alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta. IMD has also announced orange alert in Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki districts.

Other districts except Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert. Isolated heavy rain is possible. Ponmudi Eco Tourism Center has been closed due to heavy rains.

IMD has stated that there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning in Kerala for the next five days. There is a warning that there may be heavy rain at isolated places from today to 24th and very heavy rain at isolated places today and tomorrow.

A yellow alert has been announced today in Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, tomorrow in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki and Wayanad districts and in Ernakulam on the 24th.

Special instructions to the general public

  1. In case of heavy rain warning, people should cooperate with the authorities in the places where they have to evacuate according to the instructions.
  2. People living in danger zones should be careful as the storm surge is likely to be strong along various coasts. People should cooperate with shifting at the necessary stage. Fishing equipment should be secured.
  3. Residents of unsecured homes and those living in homes with weak roofs should be prepared to evacuate based on the warnings in the coming days.
  4. Trees/posts/boards etc. standing in danger in private and public areas should be secured and trees should be trimmed. Dangerous conditions should be brought to the attention of the authorities.
  5. People should be prepared to fully comply with the Covid norms at the stages of shifting to relief camps
  6. Under no circumstances should one cross rivers, bathe, fish or wade into rivers or other bodies of water during heavy rains.
  7. It is not allowed to go on the overbridges above the water bodies to enjoy the view, take selfies or gather in groups.
