NEW DELHI: A resident doctor at AIIMS has been arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman on the pretext of marriage. The woman met him through a matrimonial site and exchanged rings. Following this, the man demanded Rs 25 lakh and an SUV as dowry before marriage.

The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by the woman at Delhi's Kavi Nagar police station. The marriage was postponed after the doctor said he had to write his PhD papers.

According to the woman, she told the doctor that he parents were out of town on May 24, after which he and his brother-in-law came to her house. She was then allegedly offered a drink spiked with drugs and was sexually abused. This was filmed by the man's brother-in-law, who also sexually assaulted her. Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhishek Srivastava says that when he came to know that the girl was pregnant, he tricked her into abortion.

According to the police, the accused was caught from his house in Delhi, and his relatives are also involved in the incident. The police informed that an FIR has been registered against 11 more people and they will also be arrested soon.
