THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will file an appeal in the division bench of the High Court against the Kerala Administrative Tribunal's judgement to fix the Kerala Administrative Service's cadre post at 105. The procedures for this started under the leadership of KR Jyotilal, Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department. The government has also sought the opinion of the law department. The government will point out that the cadre posts were fixed according to law and there was no violation of any kind of rule.

On October 13, the Administrative Tribunal ruled that fixing cadre posts at 105 was contrary to Rules 4 and 18 of the KAS Rules, 2018. About 10 candidates from the rank list approached the tribunal citing violation. The cadre strength was to include 10 per cent of the total 1210 second gazetted posts and direct recruitment posts. According to this, there should have been 174 posts. If this is the case, 53 more vacancies have to be filled. However, the government fixed the cadre strength as 105, which the petitioners argue was a violation of the rules.

KAT had also canceled the government order of February 2021 fixing the cadre posts. The tribunal had directed to reassess the cadre strength within one month and report to the PSC within two months to include the remaining posts. However, it is indicated that the government is not ready for this. The main reason is opposition from service organizations.
