PALAKKAD: Alwin Joseph, a native of Mundoor in the district, was killed in the CUSAT disaster, shattering the entire hope of a family. Alwin, who worked as an electrician in his hometown, was loved by his family and friends. The bank had sent a notice to the family after his father failed to repay the loan of Rs 4 lakh taken for their education and other necessities. Alwin was trying to get a job in the Gulf to repay this and it was during this time he lost his life. Alwin's father is a rubber tapping worker.


Alwin left home with his close friend Jinu at around 7:30 Saturday morning. He told his mother that after visiting his sister in Ernakulam, he would attend the funeral function of his friend’s father. Alwin boarded a bus to Ernakulam after assuring his friend that he would come early to go playing. Alwin, who studied fire and safety course at a private institution in Kottayam, wrote the exam in CUSAT. He had told his family and friends that he would get the pass certificate from the college on this trip. Alwin had friends in CUSAT and that is why he stood there to watch the music concert.

The accident that shook the state happened yesterday. Four including three students lost their lives and of that two are girls. 72 people were injured in the accident. Three of them are in a serious condition.


The dead are Athul Thamby (23), son of Thampy in Koothattukulam Kizhakombu Kochupara, Anne Rifta (20), daughter of Roy George Kutti in North Paravur Gothuruthu Kurumbathuruthu Konath, Sara Thomas from Tamarassery in Kozhikode and Alwin Joseph from Mundoor in Palakkad.
