KOCHI: Mystery shrouded the accident that happened during a tech fest in CUSAT. The letter of the principal of school of engineering to the university registrar is behind the mystery.
The letter given on November 21 requested to arrange security including that of the police for the event. It is alleged that the registrar had not handed over this letter to the police. The letter had mentioned the date and time of the event. CUSAT Employees Union General Secretary Anson P Anthony alleged that there is mystery for not handing it over to the police.
CUSAT Vice Chancellor P G Sankaran responded that the police had been informed about the event. He clarified that there was no security breach and six policemen were present at the venue of the event.
A music concert of Bollywood singer Nikhita Gandhi was organized as part of the fest. The accident happened just before she left to the venue for the concert.
Four including three students died in the accident. 72 people were injured in the accident. The dead are Athul Thamby (23), son of Thampi in Koothattukulam Kizhakombu Kochupara, Anne Rifta (20), daughter of Roy George Kutti in North Paravur Gothuruthu Kurumbathuruthu Konath, Sara Thomas from Tamarassery in Kozhikode and Alvin Joseph from Palakkad Mundoor.
