KOCHI: A specialized police team has gathered statements from 16 injured students undergoing treatment due to the CUSAT tragedy. They'll be listening to statements from the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, School of Engineering Principal, and teachers today and tomorrow. Dr. (School of Engineering Principal) requested police protection for the event. An investigation, led by Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner P.V. Baby, will delve into why the CUSAT registrar overlooked the letter from Deepak Kumar Sahu.

Additional statements from more students who were present at the scene will be recorded in the upcoming days. The police have secured approximately 10 mobile phone videos captured by students before and after the accident. They will also be taking statements from students involved in organizing the event. The investigation aims to uncover details about how the accident occurred, the circumstances, and whether there were any lapses in program implementation.

Due to a syndicate meeting, statements couldn't be obtained from CUSAT officials yesterday. The investigation team highlighted that both the principal and registrar will need to clarify why the security request letter was delayed despite the program's prior decision and why the registrar didn't take immediate action.

A committee led by Rajshree, appointed by the Higher Education Department, including technical experts, inspected the accident site. They measured the open-air auditorium where the tragedy occurred.

The principal's letter was delivered to the registrar just before the tragic incident. The security officer at CUSAT also possesses a copy of this letter, emphasizing the necessity for police security to prevent any unfortunate incidents.

Regarding a complaint filed by Supreme Court lawyer Subhash Theekadan urging a case against the VC in the CUSAT tragedy, the police have opted not to take immediate action. P.V. Baby, leading the investigation team, stated that such a decision cannot be made at this early stage of the investigation.
