josimol

KOTTAYAM: For years, Josimol who resides in Puthan Parambu, Kumarakam had been bedridden due to a rare illness. The missing of fingers in both hands made her pursuit of Aadhaar particularly challenging.

Despite her efforts, various authorities including the Akshaya Center encountered difficulties enrolling Josimol in Aadhaar due to her unique condition. As a result, she and her family were denied crucial government benefits causing distress and financial hardship.

The turning point came when District Collector V Vigneshwari and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar intervened in Josimol's case. With their support, IT mission officials visited Josimol's residence and successfully conducted her Aadhaar enrollment, utilizing a specialized biometric system to accommodate her situation.

Expressing relief and gratitude, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized the necessity of preventing such challenges for differently-abled people in the future. He acknowledged the absence of a unified identity document approved by the central government for the rights of the differently-abled and highlighted the need for a more accessible system.

Following the news, the State Disability Commission voluntarily took action filing a case to address Josimol's situation and ensure fair access to government services for the differently-abled.
