KOCHI: In a remarkable entrepreneurial journey, M Chinnu, a former teacher at Kottayam Engineering College and skilled interior designer transformed her hobby of embroidery into a flourishing clock-making business. While residing in Dubai with her husband Anil Antony, she discovered her passion for embroidery through YouTube tutorials in 2019.

Encouraged by her husband's suggestion, Chinnu, adept in interior designing attempted to apply her embroidery skills on a clock. The result was a stunning creation that garnered widespread admiration.

Upon Anil's return home during the Covid pandemic, he assisted Chinnu in crafting two more clocks sharing their images on Instagram and WhatsApp. The overwhelming demand that followed marked a pivotal moment in their clock-making venture.

Utilizing materials such as fiber, plastic and wooden frames, the clocks are customizable in size, shape, interior colors and design catering to individual preferences. Orders are facilitated through the 'Clock on a Wall' Instagram page with prices ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000 per clock.

With an impressive count of 200 clocks sold, the couple has established an efficient online system to procure all necessary materials including dials and clock hands, ensuring a swift manufacturing process. Crafting each clock takes approximately two to five days with Anil providing technical assistance during assembly to ensure the meticulous care needed, particularly in handling the delicate embroidery work.

Their two children, Tony, a second-grader and three-year-old George bring joy and inspiration to their thriving enterprise.
