farmer-death

THIRUNELLI: With no respite from the rising debt crisis, a farmer from Appappara in Wayanad committed suicide on Thursday. E.Sudhakaran (75) is the deceased.

After the death of his wife Meenakshi, Sudhakaran lived alone in the ancestral home. He had a loan of five and a half lakh rupees in the local co-operative bank. Two lakh rupees were written off in agricultural debt relief.

The bank officials had informed that the remaining three and a half lakh rupees should be paid in January. The warning also stated that if failed payment, the debt could rise again to Five and a half lakh rupees. Sudhakaran fell into depression and found no means to complete the payment. His son Sathyan lives just 100m away from the ancestral house. Sudhakaran used to have food from this house.
