KOLLAM: Sree Narayana Guru Open University is all set to enroll prisoners who are under trial and convicted in various cases. Admission will be in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The decision came after 12 inmates of Kannur Central Prison applied online to join the course.

From Kannur Central Prison, eight people have enrolled for undergraduate courses and four for postgraduate courses in Malayalam literature, English literature and commerce. The university has decided to give them complete exemption in admission and examination fees. Study material will also be provided free of charge. The online class will be made available after discussion with the jail authorities. The conduct of the examination will be decided later.

The distribution of study materials to those who have joined the courses will be held on December 11 at 3 pm in Kannur Central Jail courtyard. KV Sumesh MLA will inaugurate the function presided over by the jail superintendent Dr P Vijayan. Vice Chancellor Dr PM Mubarak Pasha will also take part.
