THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have found that apart from Dr Ruwais, Dr Shahana's fiance and friend, his father Abdul Rasheed also had a crucial role in her suicide. He was also arraigned in the case under the Dowry Prohibition Act. On reaching their house in Karunagappally, the police found it was locked. The police say that Abdul is absconding.

Shahana's brother Jasim Naza had stated to the police that when the relatives came to Ruwais's house in Karunagapally on November 18, Ruwais' father had negotiated for the dowry. He was arraigned based on this statement.

Evidence has also come to light that it was Ruwais' cruel behavior that pushed Shahana, who was under mental stress, over the suicide line. Shahana had sent a WhatsApp message to Ruwais at 9 am on Monday saying that she cannot bear this pain and will commit suicide. After this, Ruwais immediately blocked her on WhatsApp. Shahana was completely devastated by this and committed suicide that night.

The police have handed over the mobile phones of both of them containing these WhatsApp messages, which are crucial evidence in the case, to the forensic department. This message sent by Shahana was deleted by Ruwais before he was arrested. These will be recovered.

Ruwais to be taken into police custody

Ruwais will be taken into police custody for further interrogation and evidence collection. An application will be made to the court on Monday. Meanwhile, Ruwais applied for bail in the Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, which could be considered on Monday.

IMA suspension

Dr. Ruwais was also suspended from IMA pending investigation. "Such evil is a disgrace to the field of modern medicine and the medical community. IMA will take strong action against the trends.," Dr Joseph Benavan, President of IMA state unit and secretary Dr K Sasidharan said.
