ALAPPUZHA: The government is set to introduce an initiative by creating more than 1000 'Happiness Parks' across the state. These parks aim to cater to people who find themselves isolated at home providing a haven for mental and physical enjoyment through arts and sports. As part of the upcoming annual plan, local governments will be mandated to allocate resources for the development of these parks in Gram Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporations.
With an emphasis on mental and physical health, these parks will encompass various amenities and activities. Although the specific age groups targeted by these parks are yet to be determined, they will offer facilities such as art spaces, sports activities, community yoga, meditation, jogging tracks, libraries, open gyms and more. Additionally, the parks will host events like 'Happiness Day' once a month, focusing on interventions for mental, physical and emotional well-being.
Funding for these parks will come from diverse sources such as development-own funds, CSR funds, sponsorships and more. The local bodies, including 941 Gram Panchayats, 87 Municipalities, and six Corporations, have been directed to include these Happiness Parks in their annual plans.
The amenities at these parks are designed to cater to a range of needs including parking facilities, 'Taste the Village' corners, selfie spots, mobile charging stations, toilets, proper lighting, waste management systems and more. These parks will offer spaces for various activities such as 'Save the Date' gatherings, birthday celebrations, food festivals and cultural events, ensuring inclusivity for all.
