KOCHI: A CPM branch committee member, who came to attend the Navakerala Sadas at Marine Drive, was allegedly beaten up by DYFI workers. Raees, Thammanam East Branch Committee member, was injured in the attack. He sustained injuries on his hand and head after being brutally beaten twice. Raees said that he was an active worker of the party and was beaten up despite informing the same. Following this, Raees said he is leaving the party in protest against the incident. He also alleged that the police registered a case against him in the incident after he was beaten up.

After receiving a phone call, Raees came out of the event venue and was stopped by five people and released after checking the phone. Later, the same group returned and beat him. The Democratic Students Association had protested by distributing pamphlets near the Navakerala Sadas. Raees stood near them in the venue. As he went out to make a phone calll, Raees was beaten up along with other members of the association. After the attack, Raees sought treatment at the Indira Gandhi Hospital with serious injuries. Raees said that 19 people attacked him and he was hit in the face as well.
