KOCHI: Kerala-based maritime company Nawalt, located in Kochi has proudly unveiled its latest innovation - an electric-solar powered boat designed specifically to cater to the needs of Mumbai's Mazagon Dock, the nation's second-largest shipyard.

Named after the fierce and agile fish, the 'Barracuda,' this 14-meter long and 4.4-meter wide vessel stands as the country's fastest electric-solar powered boat, capable of cruising at 12 nautical miles per hour. Crafted meticulously over two years at Nawalt's Panavalli yard in Alappuzha, this ground breaking boat runs on a 50kW LFP (Lithium Ion Phosphate) battery and harnesses six kilowatts of solar power.

Sanjay Kumar Singh, the General Manager of Mazagon Dock, is set to receive the boat, designed not only for transporting construction materials but also facilitating personnel travel with a capacity for 10 passengers.

With a remarkable travel range of 7 hours on a single charge, soon to be augmented by solar power, the boat bears a construction cost of 2.5 crores.

Arjun Sethunath, Nawalt's Chief Marketing Officer, expressed deep pride stating, "It is a great honor to be able to build a boat for Mumbai Mazagon Dock."

Notably, Nawalt's expertise isn't limited to the 'Barracuda'; previously, the company crafted the award-winning 'Aditya,' recognized as the world's finest electric passenger boat earning the Gustav Trove award.

Moreover, Nawalt is currently in the process of constructing 'Indra,' India's largest tourist boat for the Kerala Tourism Department. The 'Indra,' with a length of 75 meters and a width of 7 meters will accommodate up to 100 passengers across its two decks and is scheduled for launch in the upcoming New Year.
