THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The death of Kalyani, the police dog that provided crucial clues in many cases, is mysterious. City Police Commissioner C H Nagaraju ordered a detailed investigation into the incident after the postmortem report that the dog died due to poison.
Departmental action has been taken against three cops. They will be kept apart until the investigation is over. Sub inspector Unnithan of the K9 squad, who was in charge of Kalyani, and her caretakers, Ranjith and Shyam, are temporarily kept apart. The investigation is led by an officer of ACP rank under the leadership of the city police commissioner. The team will have a sub inspector of K 9 Squad.
Kalyani is the senior sniffer dog of the explosive ordnance training unit of Thiruvananthapuram City K9 Dog Squad. Kalyani, who belonged to the labrador category of inspector rank, died on November 20. The mystery became stronger after the post-mortem report came out. The reason behind the suspicion is the poisonous substance found in Kalyani's internal organs. The internal organs of the dog were sent for detailed chemical examination as reported by the post-mortem doctor. The other dogs in the K9 squad were tested in the wake of the detection, but nothing was found. The mystery lies in how Kalyani got poison inside.
