KOCHI: Kerala High Court is contemplating appointing a legal team to investigate grievances raised by devotees specifically concerning overcrowding at Sabarimala. Justices Anil K Narendran and G Girish are reviewing multiple complaints, as pilgrims face challenges due to inadequate regulation by the police and the Devaswom Board.
The proposed 12-member lawyer team is expected to conduct an inspection at Sabarimala, evaluating various areas such as the queue complex and rest zones. Their assessment will focus on examining available facilities and identifying the difficulties encountered by devotees. However, a final decision on this initiative is yet to be made.
The High Court's intervention follows escalating traffic issues prompting the court to accept a voluntary petition and demand a comprehensive report on the situation. Notably, the court has directed the provision of essential amenities like food and water at Elavunkal.
Furthermore, the government has assured the court that the current congestion is under control. ADGP is scheduled to personally appear and provide an explanation accompanied by a video presentation showcasing the measures implemented to manage the influx of pilgrims.
In response to the proposed legal team, the government has asserted that illegal routes to Sannidhanam have been closed indicating there might not be a necessity for a formal examination of the situation.
