THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police registered a case under non-bailable section against seven SFI workers who jumped in front of Governor Arif Mohammad Khan’s convoy vehicle in protest, hitting the bonnet and rearview mirror.
The case was registered against 7 SFI activists who protested in front of the Palayam University Library. These seven SFI workers who are in custody have been remanded. The section of IPC 353 (assaulting or assaulting a public servant) was charged. When the governor's vehicle passed the Palayam University Library, the SFI workers entered the road, hit the bonnet of the vehicle and also caused damage to the rearview mirror.
Out of the total 17 accused, only 7 were charged with non-bailable offences while all the others were arrested with minor charges. DCP Nidhin Raj said that a total of four cases have been registered so far.
DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib sought a report from City Police Commissioner C. Nagaraju regarding the incident that happened on Monday. It is reported that SFI will crank up more protests in the coming days against the non-bailable offence charged.
