THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been alleged that the police prepared the FIR against the SFI activists who protested against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan by imposing weaker sections of the IPC. The police prepared the FIR by booking the accused under non-bailable sections only for obstruction of official duties.
It is alleged that the police, which had charged those who protested against the Nava Kerala Sadas with an attempt to murder, were playing politics when it came to the protest against the Governor. The Cantonment Police have arrested 7 SFI activists in the incident that took place on Monday. Five of them were later released on bail. All 7 activists were arrested for obstructing the Governor's vehicle in Palayam.
The SFI activists had gathered together on the road where the demonstration was prohibited. They then obstructed the Governor's vehicle and waved black flags. It is mentioned in the FIR that the SFI activists obstructed the official duty of the police officers.
Meanwhile, ministers PA Muhammad Riyas, P Rajeev, AK Saseendran and others came forward in support of the SFI in the black flag protest against the Governor. Minister Muhammad Riyas said that SFI activists were fighting against saffronization on the college campuses in the state.
"Opposition leader VD Satheesan and KSU also have the responsibility to fight this like SFI. The SFI activists who protested should be given handshakes," he said.
Minister P Rajeev criticized the Governor for coming out of his vehicle when the SFI activists came to protest.
"Strike against the Governor and protest against the Chief Minister do not belong to the same level. I can speak about the protest carried out by the SFI after the report comes out. The Governor should have followed the instructions of the security personnel. He shouldn't have come out of the car. Those responsible should act according to the guidelines. Protests against the Chief Minister were carried out without any announcement. Did the opposition call for a black flag protest? The announced strikes are democratic. The opposition carried out protests by jumping in front of the vehicles all of a sudden without making a prior announcement," P Rajeev said.
