THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Governor is likely to toughen his stand towards the SFI, who blocked his vehicle at three places and for damaging his vehicle on his way to the airport. He will submit a report to the Centre. Further action will be taken after getting state government’s report on the issue. Most probably he will submit a special report on the protests in addition to the monthly report about the law-and-order situation of the state.
The governor has sought a report on the protests against him that happened on November 10 and 11 and the steps taken by the state government on it. He has sought a report from the chief secretary and the state police chief.
Meantime, sections including IPC-124 have been charged against seven SFI members who protested against the governor. They can be imprisoned for seven years. Raj Bhavan had demanded the police chief and the chief secretary to impose these sections and following that some changes were made.
This is the charge imposed when the President and the Governor are prevented or disrupt them from doing their duties. This is being imposed for the first time in Kerala. The charges of mob gathering, attempted riot and destruction of public property were initially charged.
IPC-124 has been charged against the seven arrested for trying to attack the Governor's car in front of the Palayam University Library. Reports mentioned that a loss of Rs 76,357 was caused by the accused after hitting the window and bonnet of the car.
