NEW DELHI: The security breach and intrusion by four people at the Parliament on Wednesday has been a shocker.
Around 1 pm, two people jumped down from the visitors' gallery and pulled out canisters hidden in their shoes. These canisters or 'smoke bombs' emitted a yellow gas. Nobody was injured in the incident. Two people protested outside the parliament with the slogan that dictatorship will not be allowed. All four have been arrested.
The arrested have been identified as Sagar Sharma, D Manoranjan A, Amol and Neelam. Neelam says that they have no connection with any organization. The Speaker has sought an explanation from the Parliament Security Director in the incident.
What are smoke bombs or colour gas canisters?
Also known as smoke cans or smoke bombs, these are legal in most countries and are available in almost all retail markets. These cans are used by both military personnel and civilians.
Reports say that it is mainly used in sports events and photoshoots. At sporting events, particularly football, fans use smoke canisters to display their respective clubs' colours. It is also widely used in military operations to mark a target for aerial attack, indicate wind direction, produce a smoke screen, etc.
