PERTH: Australian opener Usman Khawaja abandons his decision to wear shoes with pro-Palestinian slogans on them. The sports star's decision was to wear these shoes in the match that starts tomorrow against Pakistan. Aussie captain Pat Cummins said that the decision was withdrawn due to the ICC ban.
The incident came to light in a picture captured by the media while Khawaja was training ahead of the Test match. Khawaja's shoes were emblazoned with slogans like 'Freedom is a human right' and 'all lives are equal'.
Khawaja adopted such a method to declare his support for Palestine in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, this type of personal behaviour in international matches is prohibited by the ICC. The cricketer withdrew when it became clear that it was not allowed
At the same time, Khawaja did not even tell his teammates about declaring his pro-Palestinian position. The teammates came to know about this only during training.
