KANPUR: A wedding came to an abrupt halt after the groom's ex-girlfriend came up with a complaint against the groom just before the wedding. Eventually, the relatives resolved the problem by getting the bride married to the groom's brother. The incident took place in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place within the limits of the Kadaura police station. The bride was supposed to marry the youth named Surendra (25). On the day of the wedding, the police arrived and arrested Surendra as the wedding party was gearing up to leave in a procession to the bride's house. The police took the action based on the complaint lodged by Surendra's ex-girlfriend.

As per the complaint filed by the ex-girlfriend, Surendra had secretly married her sometime back. She said that Surendra later abandoned her and agreed to a new marriage when his family brought up a new marriage proposal.

Following this, police took Surendra, his girlfriend and the bride's family members to the Nevada police station. Meanwhile, some senior members of the panchayat also reached the police station and started discussions to resolve the matter.

After much discussion, the relatives and the panchayat members came up with a solution- Surendra would marry his girlfriend, while his younger brother would marry the bride. The police then released Surendra after he promised that he would marry his ex-girlfriend.
